With the app "Happy Wuppertal" you can let us know how happy you are as a Wuppertal citizen and what would make your city (even) better. Every three months you can give feedback with a questionnaire and if you are one of the first 1.000 participants you can donate 5 Euros of the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal and the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke donation budget to a non-profit project in Wuppertal of your choice.
Additionally, you can give feedback via text or photo on what could be (even) better in Wuppertal.
All data will be analyzed anonymously, published in an online dashboard and discussed at a public event.

1. What can I do when I do not own an iPhone or Android smartphone?
You can still answer the survey online and give feedback using the online feedback form. The option to donate to a project in Wuppertal is not possible without an iPhone or Android smartphone.
2. Do I have to give any personal information?
No. Nothing in the app requires you have to give personal information. You get a participant code that you can use to use the app on a different device. Like this, we do not even need your e-mail address to secure full privacy.
3. Do I understand it right, that I do not have to donate my own money but that I can donate the money of somebody else?
Yes exactly. You do not have to spend your own money. You donate the donation budget of the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal and the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke. For about 15 minutes effort you can donate 5 Euros.
4. If I am not one of the first 1.000 participants I cannot donate, right?
Yes, exactly. Unfortunately, we have a set budget of 20.000 Euros per year so that we cannot let other participants donate money. However, you can always donate your own money to a project at Gut für Wuppertal or WSW-Taler
Different institutions like the OECD realized in the past years that there is more than just economic progress. For citizens it is not just important to be wealthy, it is important that they feel "happy". For Wuppertal, it is the same. Unfortunately, while there is a lot of economic welfare data, for example the Gross Domestic Product, there is much less data on people's well-being.
Contrary to economic data, that may be collected without the help of the citizens, it is important to collect people's subjective feelings to measure their well-being.
In order to do this we created the app “Happy Wuppertal”!
“Happy Wuppertal” is a project of the Wuppertal Instituts and the Happiness Research Organisation supported by the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal, the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke, and the Forschungsinstitut für gesellschaftliche Weiterentwicklung. With the app citizens can fill in a questionnaire four times a year to give feedback to their subjective well-being and their community well-being. Additionally, citizens can give feedback on how to improve quality of life in Wuppertal anytime via text or photo. To support progress the first 1.000 participants can donate 20.000 Euros of donation budget (given by the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal and the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke) to non-profit projects in Wuppertal. All collected data will be analyzed anonymously. The results will be published in an online dashboard and discussed in public events.
